Valentine's Troubadours
For Valentine's Day yesterday the Beantones dressed up in tuxedos, took half the day off from work and went around town singing to our wives and other favorite women in our lives. We made seven stops in all, with venues ranging from a lunch room at a Roxbury child welfare agency to a toney conference room at Wellesley college to the gym at the YMCA.
The venues were wide ranging, but the reactions were pretty similar. A few quotes from the day:
"What a wonderful surprise I received yesterday! I can tell you nothing like that has ever happened to me before. The memory has been a pleasant distraction all yesterday and now into today. You all are the best!"
"What a treat! I can’t wait to hear all the details of your day and how you put it all together. You certainly made my day!"
"Thank you so much for making not only my day but Edla's and Karin's! What a surprise! And now I learn that this was a very wide-reaching conspiracy! Steve was very pleased and amused when I called him. He says he owes you each a bottle of wine! I was especially delighted for Edla's sake. You gave her something really nice to remember today!"
"I can remember Jim handing me the rose, kissing me and all the while part of my brain is thinking they're in their tuxes, they're going to sing and the other part was thinking what are they doing here! I'm sure you could tell from the look on my face I was not processing what was happening. You not only sang to me and my colleagues.....our guests were the Dean of Students and the Dean of the College!! You are now an "event" on campus, word is spreading. Milena cried and Robin thought it was so romantic. The music was absolutely wonderful. I can not think of a better gift. But really the best part was the obivious joy you all took in singing and surpising. You clearly had such fun."
"After the first shock of 'Is Jim OK??' Then.. Can you believe it... I am in my PJs and it's 3:00!!! I loved it.. I felt so special...I have never had anything like this ever happen to me... soooo very romantic (even if there were three other guys!). This Valentine's Day will be forever in my memory as very, very special. I thank you all for making it happen, you are all very sweet!"
As much as the women enjoyed it, we probably enjoyed it more - see all of our smiling faces in the photo album.
